Vintage Taxco 925 sterling silver twist bangle, marked Taxco Mexico in excellent used condition with superficial scratches. Truly a beautiful bracelet that feels luxurious on.
Taxco jewelry was founded by William Spratling, an American architech and artist who learned the Spanish art of silversmithing from two Silver Masters, Artemio Navarette and Alfonso Mondragon. Their designs incorporated pre-Columbian motifs and these silversmith processes were passed along to talented apprentices. Taxco silver jewelry production boomed during WWII since Europe's availability of luxury goods was unavailable. Due to the limited supply, luxury retailers such as Marshall Fields, Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Gump's, Neiman Marcus and Tiffany & Co began purchasing fine silver from Taxco designers. Taxco, Mexico became something like "Paris in the 1920s" with notable visitors and movie stars seeking out the town's colonial charm.
